UNION HOSPITAL EXPANSION PROJECTS, ELKTON, MD

For over 10 years, Duffield Associates has provided geotechnical and construction review services for a variety of projects at the rapidly expanding Union Hospital. A sampling of projects includes:

2008/2009, Medical Office Building - A 30,000 sf three story medical office building with associated parking lot improvements

2009, Same Day Surgery Renovation - Structural renovation to a 2,200 sf interior area of existing hospital building

2006, Parking Garage - A multi-level parking facility with capacity for approximately 435 cars. A future horizontal expansion is proposed to provide an additional 200 spaces.

2005, Inpatient Expansion - A three-story 9,000 square foot addition to the main hospital structure. The structure was designed and constructed to accommodate future vertical expansion. Special consideration of regional groundwater was also required on this site during basement design and construction.

2005, Parking Lot - An approximately 250 car parking lot was proposed in an area with challenging subgrade conditions. Duffield Associates provided consultation regarding soil amendment and subgrade improvements during the pavement construction.

2005, Adult Daycare Center - A 7,000 square foot, single-story structure built at the site with challenging subgrade due to previous site use.

2002, One Story Addition - A single story addition to the main hospital building. The addition had a basement, which required special consideration of regional groundwater issues during design and construction.

1998, Two Story Addition - A multi-story addition to the main hospital building. The structure was designed to accommodate future expansion consisting of two additional stories of hospital space constructed on top of the addition.
