SCRANTON BROWNFIELDS ASSESSMENT PROJECT
SCRANTON, PA
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The City of Scranton, PA received a $200,000 Brownfields Assessment Grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Brownfields Program.  The grant will provide funding to the City of Scranton to assist with identifying abandoned industrial properties for potential redevelopment.  The City is one of 209 communities nationwide receiving more than $74 million in Brownfields-related funding.

Duffield Associates will be leading the Brownfields Assessment Project for the City of Scranton, Office of Community and Economic Development.  An initial part of the Brownfields identification process was the formation of the Scranton Brownfields Advisory Group, as community involvement and awareness is critical to a successful project.  Duffield Associates is in the process of completing a Brownfields inventory for the City.  Following the completion of the inventory, we will be performing several Phase I and II environmental site assessments.

Other aspects of the project include creating a Quality Assurance Project Plan (QAPP) and site specific sampling plans.  A Health Assessment has been proposed which will look at pre-existing health data for the City of Scranton and draw qualitative findings as to the presence of any potentially geographically-related disease clusters.
