Project Description
Duffield Associates is a leading consultant in the Mid-Atlantic Region in the field of coastal ecological planning and monitoring. The services provided include:
- Monitoring of beach nesting avian species for beach fill or beach disturbance projects that occur during migration and/or breeding seasons;
- Beach management plan development and implementation;
- Habitat impact assessments;
- Grant application;
- Trail development; and
- Agency coordination.
Duffield Associates’ personnel also participate in: the Working Group for the management of East Coast wintering shorebirds, including piping plovers, least terns, black skimmers, American oystercatchers, and red knot; The International Shorebird Census; and has presented at the Manomet Conservation Center conference on Partnerships for Bird Conservation November 2010, Plymouth, Mass.
Recently, Duffield Associates has:
- Successfully prepared National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) grant applications for the development of a Comprehensive Conservation Plan for Stone Harbor Point, a significant shorebird habitat / stopover, and beach nester habitat along the eastern hemisphere;
- Developed and prepared the required municipal Beach Management Plans for various municipalities in NJ;
- Developed protocol for monitoring of beach nesting avian species during beach nourishment projects, and developed monitoring protocol for seabeach amaranth, a federally endangered plant species that occur on beaches; and
- Conducted ecological (beach nesting bird, incl. piping plover) monitoring.
