UNIVERSITY OF DELAWARE HOTEL (COURTYARD BY MARRIOTT)
NEWARK, DE
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As part of their growing program in Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Management, the University of Delaware contracted with a hotel group to construct a 125 room, four-story hotel near the University’s Clayton Hall conference center.  Students in the program get “hands on” experience at the hotel to further their knowledge in hotel and restaurant management.

Duffield Associates prepared Site Plans for a property subdivision and rezoning approval from the City of Newark, and prepared Site Plans, Erosion and Sedimentation Control Plans, and Stormwater Management Plans for approval from the City of Newark for the construction of a hotel on the campus of the University of Delaware.  This work included numerous meetings and coordination with the City of Newark, Department of Planning, Department of Public Works, Water and Sewer Department, Building Department, Planning Commission, and Planning Board, and the Delaware Department of Transportation.  Issues associated with the project included dealing with steep slopes on the property, traffic flow issues associated with entrances and exits for the hotel, and connecting the hotel to a conference center via an open walk path.  This hotel is the only hotel in operation on the “north” side of campus and it provides much needed lodging for seminars and conferences held at the nearby conference center as well as lodging for the various University of Delaware functions.

In addition, Duffield Associates performed a geotechnical evaluation, wetlands delineation and weekly review of sediment and erosion control items for conformance with the City of Newark approved Sediment and Erosion Control Plans
