ENVIRONMENTAL CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT OFFICE BUILDING
NEWARK, NEW JERSEY
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Our client purchased an inner city property that contained a fast food restaurant and a parking lot. Their goal was for fast track construction of an office building with a subgrade parking garage. Duffield Associates provided environmental construction management for the redevelopment of this property - during the removal of environmentally impacted soils down to the final grades of the proposed office building foundations.
Our initial task was to conduct a pre-demolition environmental survey of the restaurant, which included asbestos-containing building materials, refrigerants, fire suppression chemicals, PCB-containing transformers, and mercury-containing fluorescent light bulbs and thermal switches. Duffield Associates’ environmental professionals hold asbestos licenses needed to perform this survey. Subsequently, Duffield Associates managed the removal of the environmentally regulated materials from the restaurant.
In preparation of the new building construction, Duffield Associates performed construction management including:
- Removing asbestos,
- De-activating utilities,
- Obtaining permits and demolishing buildings,
- Performing geotechnical and environmental assessment of subsurface soils,
- Locating and removing underground storage tanks,
- Obtaining approval from NJDEP for a Remedial Investigation Report/Remedial Action Work Plan,
- Removing soils containing hazardous substances,
- Arranging disposal for all waste materials,
- Obtaining street and sidewalk closing permits,
- Writing health and safety plan,
- Designing and implementing a erosion and sediment control plan,
- Removing soil and rip-able bedrock to final foundation depths, and,
- Surveying and documenting post-removal of soil and rock conditions.
Upon successful completion of our primary services, we turned the site over to the construction manager to construct the office building. |
