Duffield Associates Wins Premier Green Building Award from IFMA Delaware
July 6, 2009 - The International Facility Management Association (IFMA) Delaware Chapter presented the first annual Green Building Award at their year-end meeting. The Green Building Award was created to recognize efforts by members and associates who apply sustainable practices to their facilities and projects but do not meet LEED credentials. Companies could submit a facility for consideration, which was then judged by a list of possible sustainable elements in (13) categories including Site and Landscaping, Waste Reduction, Heating and Cooling, and Interior Materials. The company that met the most criteria in each category won a certificate for that category. In the event of a tie, the Green Building Award is given to the submission that won the most overall categories.

The 2009 Green Building Award winner was Duffield Associates for the firm's Water Shed building. This building, designed by Homsey Architects, features numerous sustainable elements including the use of day lighting, space for recycling, a bioretention facility for stormwater runoff, and low emission interior materials.

Duffield Associates Wins National Award
February 2, 2009 - A Duffield Associates project was recently selected as one of the top 10 stormwater projects in the United States by nationally recognized Storm Water Solutions magazine. The TD Bank Redevelopment and Rain Garden project is located in Hockessin neighboring the Hockessin Fire Hall. This is an area susceptible to sinkhole formation, within a publicly regulated Water Resource Protection Area (WRPA), and near key public drinking water supply wells.

Duffield Associates' water resource team worked with TD Bank's designer to develop a stormwater management program that utilizes diffuse recharge stormwater management practices to protect critical groundwater supplies while mitigating the potential for sinkhole development at the site. On-site stormwater management practices that were implemented include a large rain garden, and harvesting and storage of rooftop runoff in underground tanks for site irrigation. This approach significantly reduced the need to use drinking water for irrigation purposes.

This project also won an Honors Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies - Delaware.
